Description

In a significant announcement for the Nintendo Switch gaming community, Zynga has confirmed it will shut down all servers for its free-to-play shooter, Star Wars: Hunters, on October 1, 2025.

The shutdown marks the end of the game's availability across Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android platforms, just under 16 months after its initial launch on June 4, 2024. Star Wars: Hunters was developed by Zynga in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, aiming to deliver a competitive team-based shooter set in the Star Wars universe.

Despite initial excitement and the recognizable IP, the game faced mixed critical reception following its launch.

In a recent post on the official Star Wars: Hunters website, Zynga addressed the closure: "We recognize this announcement is disappointing, and want to emphasize that the decision was not made lightly.

The passion and commitment of our player community have meant so much to us." Alongside the shutdown announcement, Zynga detailed the game's end-of-life roadmap.

The final content update will become available for all players on April 15, 2025—free of charge.

This update will introduce Tuya, a new support Hunter character, ensuring the title's final months offer something new for dedicated fans.

In-game purchases, such as Crystal packs and the Arena Pass, will be disabled across all platforms on the same date.

The official FAQ further clarifies that refunds for unused premium currency or purchased passes will not be provided. To support ongoing engagement, Season 5 of Star Wars: Hunters will be extended by three weeks, and a variety of events and shop bundles will make a return, giving players ample opportunity to compete and complete their collections.

Ranked Mode leaderboards will also remain active until the game's closure, allowing competitors to vie for top placement until the very end. After October 1, 2025, Star Wars: Hunters will be fully unplayable, and it will be removed from the Nintendo eShop and respective app stores.

This follows a trend of live-service games with shorter life cycles, emphasizing the challenges of sustaining online-focused titles even with popular licenses like Star Wars. For Nintendo Switch users and fans of the Star Wars franchise, this news highlights the evolving landscape of free-to-play shooters on the platform and underscores the importance of community feedback and engagement in shaping a game's lifespan.
