Star Fox Nintendo Switch 2 Release: Everything Confirmed for June 25, 2026

Nintendo has confirmed a new Star Fox title for the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch worldwide on 25 June 2026.

Revealed during a surprise Star Fox Direct, the release is positioned as a modern, cinematic reimagining of Star Fox 64 and will be available at retail and digitally via the Nintendo eShop.

Overview

Nintendo described the project as a cinematic rework of Star Fox 64, updating character designs, overhauling stage visuals, adding detailed cutscenes with full voice acting, and backing the experience with an orchestral soundtrack.

The company framed the title as taking full advantage of the increased power and performance of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

Reveal and context

The Direct announcement followed an earlier leak about the project by an insider known as Nate on the Nate the Hate Podcast.

Nintendo’s formal reveal completes a strong first-party slate for the coming period, alongside confirmed and upcoming titles including Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Splatoon Raiders, The Duskbloods and an announced remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Gameplay, modes and features

- Campaign Mode: The game revisits the Lylat System with modern visuals across planets such as Corneria and Zoness.

Players can select Easy or Normal difficulty up front and unlock Expert by earning medals.

Route choices and in-stage objectives can alter the missions encountered, encouraging replay.

- Challenge Mode: Players can replay cleared stages to tackle new objectives in Normal or Expert difficulty settings.

- Battle Mode: New 4-vs-4 dogfights support up to eight players across three objectives-based stages.

Matches can be private or matched online, and GameShare enables up to four local or online players to join via GameChat.

Nintendo Switch 2-specific capabilities

The title supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls for more intuitive aiming in solo Campaign and Challenge play.

When a second player joins locally or via GameShare, they can assume gunner duties.

GameChat also offers character avatars and AR filters that mimic facial movement and offer Star Fox-themed overlays during voice chat.

Release and outlook

Star Fox will launch worldwide for Nintendo Switch 2 on 25 June 2026, on physical shelves and the Nintendo eShop.

The Direct positioned the game as a high-profile entry in Nintendo’s post-launch Switch 2 lineup.
