Square Enix has unveiled Evercold, the sixth expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, during Naoki Yoshida’s keynote at FFXIV Fan Festival 2026.
The developer confirmed the expansion will launch in January 2027 on PC, Mac, Steam, PlayStation and Xbox platforms, and that the base Final Fantasy XIV experience is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026.
Everwold?
No, must be Evercold is positioned as the opening chapter of a new story arc titled the Godless Realms Saga.
Square Enix released a trailer and supporting description outlining core features and the scope of the update.
The studio lists the expansion’s major additions as:
- Two new jobs: a tank role and a physical ranged DPS job
- Level cap increase from 100 to 110
- Multiple new cities and distinctive new regions
- New giant constructs and large-scale monster threats
- New allies, dungeons, trials, and a raid series
- A new Ultimate raid
- PvP updates and ongoing seasonal content, new gear and crafting recipes
- Updates to the Duty Support System and expanded character customization
In his keynote, Naoki Yoshida framed the update as a major systems refresh.
He described an "unprecedented" overhaul of combat that will introduce two parallel modes: Reborn and Evolved.
Yoshida explained that Reborn Mode will preserve the current combat system and job mechanics to maintain the established gameplay experience, while Evolved Mode will place greater emphasis on distinct job identity and refreshed design.
Beyond combat changes, Square Enix said Evercold will include a seasons overhaul to change how players earn rewards and progress, an armoury update, and broader design updates to enhance long-term progression.
The Fan Festival reveal also confirmed a high-profile crossover: an alliance raid series produced in collaboration with khara Inc., the studio behind the EVANGELION anime franchise.
Square Enix noted this collaboration draws on EVANGELION’s long-running influence and will bring series-inspired visual and narrative elements to FFXIV’s raid content.
For full details, patch notes and schedule, Square Enix directs players to the official Final Fantasy XIV website and the Fan Festival coverage.
