The Pokémon Company has announced a public-facing collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) tied to World Space Week 2026, which begins October 4 and runs through October 10.

The partnership centers on a high-profile stunt: French astronaut Sophie Adenot traveled to orbit with a special Pikachu plush and photographed the mascot against the backdrop of Earth, with the aim of raising public interest in space exploration.

Mission details and imagery

On a mission that ran from April 11 to June 27, 2026, Sophie Adenot and the Pikachu plush completed 1,040 orbits of Earth, capturing a series of photographs showing the character floating in microgravity in front of the planet.

Those images are being used as part of the World Space Week activities and broader educational outreach organized by The Pokémon Company and ESA.

Merchandise and public exhibits

To coincide with the collaboration, collectible items will be made available through the official Pokémon Center website.

The announced range includes two different Pikachu plush designs, Pokémon Trading Card Game accessories, desk mats, and other commemorative merchandise.

In addition, temporary exhibits tied to the collaboration will be installed at various ESA sites and partner museums across Europe; the ESA website lists participating venues and exhibit schedules.

Pokémon GO event and official guidance

The campaign also extends into mobile gaming: a special Pokémon GO event will feature a new Pikachu for players to capture, plus additional in-game rewards.

Further details on the Pokémon GO activation have not yet been released.

According to the campaign communications, Scopely has advised fans to check its website for updates and official event information.

Where this fits for fans and players

The collaboration blends real-world space outreach with Pokémon-branded collectibles and in-game activations.

Fans who follow Pokémon across platforms—whether collecting mainline Pokémon titles on Nintendo Switch, hunting events in Pokémon GO on mobile, or watching announcements during Nintendo Direct and checking the Nintendo eShop for game updates—will find multiple entry points to the event.

This cross-promotional effort highlights The Pokémon Company’s continuing use of high-profile partnerships to expand the franchise’s reach beyond traditional gaming audiences while leveraging ESA’s educational mission during World Space Week 2026.
