Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Optimized for Nintendo Switch 2, Confirms Series Producer Takashi Iizuka

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Optimized for Nintendo Switch 2, Confirms Series Producer Takashi Iizuka Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the latest high-speed entry in SEGA’s iconic franchise, recently launched to eager fans across multiple platforms.

However, Nintendo Switch 2 owners found themselves waiting, as the game was not available on the new hardware at launch.

Despite this, series producer Takashi Iizuka has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version will be designed to leverage the enhanced capabilities of Nintendo’s next-generation console. In an exclusive interview with Traxion, Iizuka explained the decision behind the delayed Nintendo Switch 2 release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

He stated that the development team originally intended the Switch 2 version to arrive simultaneously with other platforms.

Due to the later release date of the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, however, the team prioritized optimizing the game specifically for the new hardware.

Iizuka emphasized that while both the original Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions feature the same core content, the differences in hardware mean that each version benefits from distinct optimizations. "Our goal was to launch the Nintendo Switch 2 edition alongside other platforms," Iizuka noted.

"Because the console launched later, we wanted to ensure that the game is truly optimized to take advantage of the new system’s full capabilities.

In terms of content, there are no changes between the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions, but the hardware differences prevent a one-to-one reproduction." While Iizuka did not specify the frame rate or resolution enhancements expected on Nintendo Switch 2, players can anticipate a performance boost over the original.

On Nintendo Switch, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds currently runs at 30 frames per second.

Although technical details remain under wraps, the development team's commitment to optimization suggests that improved visuals and smoother gameplay may be on the horizon for Switch 2 owners. Iizuka reassured fans that the gameplay experience remains consistent across both consoles.

“Players can expect the same experience and content whether on the original Switch or Switch 2,” he said.

“We believe Nintendo Switch 2 users will be pleased with what’s to come.” Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

Additionally, a physical edition is planned for early 2026, ensuring that collectors can own a full version on cartridge.

For those eager to play now, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is already available on the original Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo eShop and supports backwards compatibility for Switch 2. With Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, SEGA continues its tradition of bringing beloved franchise entries to Nintendo hardware, carefully tailoring extra enhancements for each platform.

As more details on the Nintendo Switch 2 version emerge, stay tuned for further updates on features, performance, and release dates.
