Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Adds Red, Goro Majima, and Arle as Free Playable Characters in Major Update

SEGA continues to expand the high-octane experience of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, confirming the arrival of three popular characters—Red, Goro Majima (Captain Majima), and Arle—in upcoming free updates for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

This major content addition was detailed in SEGA’s most recent announcement, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to enriching gameplay with fan-favorite personalities and memorable soundtracks. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, developed and published by SEGA, is the celebrated kart racer uniting iconic characters from across SEGA franchises.

Known for its fast-paced multiplayer action and rich cross-series roster, the game first launched on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, quickly drawing an enthusiastic community with regular content drops via the eShop and Nintendo Direct showcases. SEGA revealed that Red, the iconic protagonist from Angry Birds, and Goro Majima (also known as Captain Majima) from the Yakuza series, will both be available to players in April 2026.

Each character not only becomes a selectable racer but also brings a signature vehicle to the tracks—Red arrives alongside the Super Roaster, while Majima enters the race with his Goromaru car.

Following them, Arle from the beloved Puyo Puyo franchise will join the playable lineup in May 2026, driving the whimsical Twinkle Bayoen vehicle. A SEGA spokesperson highlighted the nature of this rollout, stating that all three new characters and their themed vehicles will be available at no additional cost, emphasizing, "Fans can look forward to these beloved characters joining the roster in spring 2026, further diversifying the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds experience." In addition to new racers, the update will introduce eight fresh music tracks for the in-game jukebox.

These songs draw from SEGA’s acclaimed arcade classics, inviting racers to speed through tracks accompanied by tunes including "MAGICAL SOUND SHOWER" from Outrun, "Let’s Go Away" from Daytona USA, and "Soul on Desert" from SEGA Rally 2, among others.

This selection showcases SEGA’s legacy of impactful video game music, enhancing the nostalgic atmosphere for longtime fans. Notably, this latest announcement follows the ongoing trend of post-launch support for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which has kept gameplay dynamic and engaging for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 players.

The growing roster and musical offerings reflect SEGA’s successful strategy for keeping the title fresh in a highly competitive kart racing genre. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is currently available for Nintendo Switch and the newly released Nintendo Switch 2.

Players can access all previous downloadable content through the Nintendo eShop.
