The network test, which ran from August 29th to September 1st, 2025, amassed over one million downloads and witnessed players competing in more than 10 million races worldwide. The official statistics were shared via the Japanese Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account, demonstrating the scale of interest in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega’s latest entry in the popular kart racing franchise.

The company extended its gratitude to participants, noting the overwhelming response and encouraging continued engagement as the game’s release approaches. A Sega spokesperson, paraphrased from the original Japanese announcement, stated: "We sincerely thank all players who joined the Open Network Test for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

The event reached roughly one million downloads and saw about ten million race sessions conducted.

We look forward to sharing both the upcoming demo and the full release with our dedicated fan base." For players who missed the initial test or are eager for more hands-on experience, Sega has confirmed that a free single-player demo of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be available for download starting September 17th, 2025, via the Nintendo eShop.

This will allow fans to sample the game's new features, characters, and tracks ahead of its retail launch. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set for a full digital release on the Nintendo Switch on September 25th, 2025.

Additionally, a digital version is scheduled to launch on the upcoming Switch 2 during the Holiday 2025 period, further expanding the title’s reach among Nintendo hardware owners.

For collectors and those who prefer physical games, Sega has announced that a cartridge version containing the complete game will hit store shelves in early 2026. This significant milestone not only highlights Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds' strong pre-release momentum but also reinforces Sega's commitment to supporting the Nintendo Switch platform with high-quality racing experiences.
