SEGA has officially detailed the technical specifications and release information for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, delivering significant upgrades over the original Nintendo Switch version.

This latest installment in the Sonic Racing franchise is set to leverage the enhanced hardware capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, promising fans a smoother and more visually rich racing experience. Enhanced Graphics and Performance for Switch 2 According to SEGA, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Nintendo Switch 2 will feature notable improvements in frame rate and resolution.

In docked mode, both single-player and two-player split-screen gameplay run at a sharp 2560×1440 resolution with a steady 60 frames per second (FPS).

For four-player split-screen sessions, the resolution remains at 2560×1440, but the frame rate is adjusted to 30 FPS to maintain consistent performance. Handheld players will also benefit from significant upgrades.

Both single and two-player split-screen modes run at 1920×1080 resolution and 60 FPS, while four-player split-screen delivers 1920×1080 at 30 FPS.

These improvements represent a substantial step up from the 30 FPS cap found on the Nintendo Switch, ensuring a smoother and more responsive gameplay experience on Switch 2. SEGA addressed the enhancements by stating that the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is designed to fully utilize the new hardware, aiming to deliver high fidelity racing action whether played on a television or in handheld mode.

The studio emphasized its commitment to providing consistent, high-performance gameplay across all supported modes. Additional Features and Release Details Alongside the performance boosts, SEGA confirmed that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will support cross-platform matchmaking, allowing players to connect and compete online with users on different platforms.

The game will debut digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025, with a physical cartridge edition planned for a later release.
