Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 — Performance vs Resolution, Save Transfers, and DLC Limits

SEGA has released Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the open-world Sonic experience from Sonic Team to Nintendo’s next-generation handheld. Sonic Frontiers originally launched on November 8, 2022, across multiple platforms; this Definitive Edition is the first specific build confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. According to SEGA, the Switch 2 release includes two distinct graphical modes that prioritize either frame rate or image quality. In journalistic terms, SEGA says players can choose a performance mode that targets a higher frame rate at the expense of reduced resolution, or a resolution-focused mode that favors visual fidelity while dialing back frame rate to compensate. Finally, SEGA has stated there is no free upgrade path from the Nintendo Switch version to the Nintendo Switch 2 Definitive Edition.
