Street Smart Joins Hamster's Arcade Archives: SNK's 1989 Fighter Arrives on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X|S

HAMSTER Corporation has added SNK's 1989 arcade fighter Street Smart to its Arcade Archives lineup this week, marking another classic re-release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S.

The move continues HAMSTER's ongoing program of bringing legacy arcade and console titles to contemporary digital storefronts, including the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store.

Street Smart originally launched in arcades in 1989 under SNK and is a one-on-one brawler in which players select between two characters—Karate-Man or Crusher—and fight through rounds to claim dominance.

HAMSTER’s description frames the game's objective as establishing who is the ultimate street brawler and securing in-game rewards described in the original materials.

The title also supports two-player cooperative play against CPU opponents, with a one-on-one showdown that determines the ultimate victor at the end of co-op sessions.

The game saw a home conversion in 1991 when Treco ported Street Smart to the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.

That port extended the arcade experience to console owners of the era and remains a notable part of the title’s release history.

Separately this week HAMSTER is releasing a Console Archives edition of Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom.

Developed and published by Tecmo for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, Ninja Gaiden III is the final entry in the original 8-bit Ninja Gaiden trilogy and is widely remembered for its challenging difficulty and darker visual tone.

HAMSTER’s Console Archives releases aim to reproduce the original NES experience on modern platforms and are commonly distributed via the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store.

Both releases underline HAMSTER’s strategy of curating and preserving retro gaming catalogues across multiple contemporary platforms.

For players and preservationists alike, these Arcade Archives and Console Archives drops provide a convenient way to access historically significant fighters such as Street Smart and genre staples like Ninja Gaiden III without requiring original hardware or cartridges.
