Simogo Legacy Collection Launches Worldwide: An In-Depth Look at the Indie Developer’s Nintendo Switch Journey
With a decade of inventive storytelling and design behind them, Swedish indie developer Simogo is set to celebrate its achievements with the launch of the Simogo Legacy Collection worldwide on December 2, 2025.
Arriving simultaneously on Nintendo Switch, the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam, this collection offers both longtime fans and newcomers a comprehensive look at Simogo’s critically acclaimed library, including beloved titles such as Year Walk, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, and more. Founded by Simon Flesser and Gordon Gardebäck, Simogo has garnered international acclaim for its creative approach to interactive entertainment.
Flesser, who leads direction, art, and writing for the studio, reflected on Simogo’s journey to Nintendo platforms.
"Nintendo was actively seeking unique Western projects for their Japanese audience," Flesser explained.
"They approached us about bringing Year Walk to Wii U.
The opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo and adapt the game for the Wii U GamePad was both fun and insightful." The Simogo Legacy Collection began development in early 2025, marking a significant milestone as the studio reimagined its past work for new audiences.
According to Flesser, platform selection was guided by both hardware capabilities and where previous Simogo titles had resonated most: "We considered the platforms where the games would make sense from a control standpoint and where we had established an audience." Demonstrating a commitment to accessibility, the collection is priced at $15—a value Flesser described as intentionally approachable.
"We wanted to maintain a low barrier for those unfamiliar with our games, while also respecting returning players." Porting the collection was not without challenges.
Simogo worked closely with Nintendo, particularly when tackling the nuances of the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Flesser noted, "Our experience with Switch 1 helped, but Nintendo provided valuable early support for Switch 2 Edition development." Special attention was given to controls, striving for seamless integration of motion controls on Joy-Con 2 and ensuring mouse-like input consistency between handheld and PC versions.
"We worked to match sensitivity settings to the platform’s home menu, making transitions as intuitive as possible." While simultaneous button controls were discussed, Flesser confirmed that the team chose to emulate original touch controls as closely as possible, aiming to preserve the authentic Simogo experience.
This approach extended to integrating quality-of-life features while retaining the spirit of the original releases. For fans interested in extras, the collection boasts an array of prototypes, unused music, and media.
Flesser detailed the process: "Finding, curating, and integrating the right prototypes was manageable since they were self-contained, but tracking down files and selecting the most representative versions took significant time." The collection’s unique interface, which presents all games via a virtual tablet screen, was a natural outcome of the early design discussions: "As we refined the control scheme, the idea of device rotation emerged, eventually allowing us to simulate puzzle elements based on acceleration and screen rotation." Technical hurdles proved considerable, especially for titles sharing underlying technology, such as SPL-T with its distinctive pixel art and scaling requirements.
Each game in the collection required custom updates to handle dynamic resolutions and aspect ratios without disrupting the user experience. On the topic of physical releases and soundtracks, Flesser confirmed there are currently no plans for physical editions or soundtrack reissues, though he has an openness to creative collaborations in the future. In addition to the Simogo Legacy Collection, enhanced Switch 2 Editions of Sayonara Wild Hearts and Lorelei and the Laser Eyes are in development, offering 4K resolution and 120fps performance for an even more immersive gameplay experience. Simogo’s dedication to thoughtful curation, game preservation, and accessibility continues to set new standards for indie developers on Nintendo platforms.
With the Simogo Legacy Collection, players have an unprecedented opportunity to experience the studio’s celebrated catalog, now optimized for modern hardware through the eShop and Steam. The Simogo Legacy Collection will be available worldwide on December 2, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.
