Sea of Stars Nintendo Switch 2 Version Appears on Japanese eShop

A new listing on the Japanese Nintendo eShop indicates Sea of Stars will receive a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 release, according to the store entry that appeared today.

Developed by Sabotage Studio, Sea of Stars originally launched in August 2023 on multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch and PC; the title is widely recognized for modernizing retro turn-based RPG mechanics while retaining nostalgic pixel-art aesthetics.

The eShop entry for Japan lists a distinct Nintendo Switch 2 version of Sea of Stars.

Importantly, the listing specifies this release is a separate build rather than a mere compatibility update for legacy Switch titles, and therefore save data from the original Nintendo Switch version will not transfer to the new release.

Nintendo has not issued a separate global announcement tied to that specific eShop listing at the time of publication.

Sabotage Studio has consistently presented Sea of Stars as a contemporary homage to classic role-playing games.

In promotional materials the developer frames the project as a modernization of the genre: turn-based combat receives timing-based mechanics that boost damage and reduce incoming attacks when players press the action button in sync with animations, combat integrates multi-character combos and strategic "locks" to counter enemy channels, and designers removed random encounters and separate battlefields to keep combat anchored in exploration.

The studio has also emphasized movement and world interaction: players can swim, climb, vault, jump, and hoist across environments with a navigation system inspired by platforming, departing from grid-bound tile movement.

Sabotage credits a custom render pipeline for enabling a rich, animated 2D pixel-art presentation that pushes visual expectations for the format.

Sea of Stars supports cooperative play for up to three players in the full campaign, with allies able to drop in and out on the same device or via online systems such as Steam Remote Play Together on PC.

The game includes a variety of noncombat activities—sailing, cooking, fishing and in-world minigames—designed to broaden pacing and echo retro design while offering modern conveniences.

Separately, Vampire Survivors has also been reported to have announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version; outlets have covered that news independently.

For Sea of Stars, the new Japanese eShop listing is the clearest confirmation so far that Sabotage is preparing a distinct build for Nintendo’s next hardware platform.

Publishers or Nintendo will need to provide regional rollout details and a release date to confirm wider availability.
