At a recent London midnight retail event tied to the release of a reissued physical edition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a small run of launch copies is already appearing on the secondary market at steep prices.
Nintendo Life's on-the-ground coverage reports that 500 copies were available at the midnight event and that attendees received a pair of physical extras as part of the launch giveaway.
Background
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a landmark Nintendo title originally released on Nintendo 64 in 1998.
The franchise and its physical merchandise routinely generate strong consumer interest, particularly for limited or commemorative releases.
Physical launches and midnight events remain a focal point for collectors and fans, and they can also draw opportunistic reseller activity.
What happened at the London midnight event
According to Nintendo Life's report, Nintendo distributed 500 copies at a London midnight launch and offered attendees a cardboard replica of the original PAL N64 box along with a small Ocarina keyring for those who queued on Tottenham Court Road.
Several of those copies quickly turned up for sale on eBay UK with Buy It Now prices listed at over £700 for packages that include the foil-cover edition and the extras.
Rewritten statements in journalistic language
A reaction that originally ran as an emphatic exclamation has been reported in market terms: some resale listings for the limited launch bundles are commanding several hundred pounds, underscoring how quickly a small supply can push up asking prices.
Observers also noted that fear of missing out among collectors appears to be contributing to aggressive markup by third-party sellers, turning a modest midnight giveaway into high-priced listings on online marketplaces.
Context and implications
Limited-run physical editions and launch-day extras have long been targets for resellers, and this instance follows that pattern.
For UK buyers and collectors, the immediate consequence is elevated resale asking prices on platforms such as eBay UK.
Retail buyers seeking guaranteed, reasonably priced copies should consult official retailers and the Nintendo eShop for standard digital options where available.
Verified facts in this report are drawn from Nintendo Life's event coverage and visible Buy It Now listings observed on eBay UK at the time of reporting.
No speculative claims about future availability or pricing trends are made here.
