Microsoft Reportedly Considering Fable Release for Nintendo Switch 2

Microsoft is evaluating the possibility of releasing its highly-anticipated Fable title, originally announced for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The news comes from Windows Central's Jez Corden, a well-known industry insider, who shared that the project is currently under consideration but not yet finalized for Nintendo's next-generation console. Fable, developed by Playground Games, marks a major revival of the beloved action RPG series for modern gaming platforms.

First revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, the upcoming Fable is set to leverage advanced hardware capabilities on Xbox Series X, Series S, and PlayStation 5—offering an expansive open world, updated visuals, and immersive storytelling.

With each new installment, the Fable franchise has consistently drawn praise for its unique blend of humor, choice-driven gameplay, and rich environments. In a recent statement, Windows Central's Jez Corden conveyed that Microsoft has not yet confirmed a Switch 2 version.

"Fable for Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t 100% definite at this time, but it is being discussed for future consideration," Corden stated.

He further explained that bringing an ambitious title like Fable to the Nintendo Switch 2 presents notable challenges, primarily due to differences in hardware capabilities.

However, he noted that, with effective optimization—similar to what has been seen in successful third-party ports on the current Nintendo Switch—such a release could eventually be possible. If Fable arrives on the Nintendo Switch 2, it would represent a significant step for cross-platform collaboration between Microsoft and Nintendo.

In recent years, Microsoft has demonstrated a willingness to extend select titles, including Ori and the Blind Forest and Minecraft, to Nintendo platforms, signaling a growing openness to multi-platform strategies.

This approach aligns with Nintendo's history of welcoming acclaimed third-party games to its hardware, especially through optimized eShop releases and major announcements during Nintendo Direct presentations. While Fable’s Switch 2 debut is not yet assured, industry observers point out that potential support for Nintendo's new console would offer a broader audience the opportunity to experience Playground Games’ highly-anticipated action RPG.

Both Microsoft and Nintendo have refrained from making official announcements regarding Fable on Switch 2.

As of now, the game's confirmed platforms remain Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, with a release window yet to be announced. For now, fans of the Fable franchise and Nintendo enthusiasts alike will have to wait for further updates.

As more information emerges from Microsoft, Playground Games, or upcoming Nintendo Direct presentations, the gaming community will be watching closely for developments on this high-profile title and its potential arrival on the Nintendo Switch 2.
