At CES 2025, a premier consumer electronics event hosted in Las Vegas, accessory manufacturer Genki drew significant attention by publicly exhibiting prototype accessories designed for the highly anticipated and as-yet-unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 console.
The company provided attending visitors with hands-on access to mockups representing the upcoming Nintendo hardware, a move that quickly became a focal point on the show floor.
Genki, known for producing innovative Nintendo Switch accessories such as the Genki Covert Dock and audio adapters, seized the opportunity at CES to showcase its forward-thinking approach to gaming hardware.
However, their display did not go unnoticed by Nintendo itself, resulting in a noteworthy encounter between Genki and the Japanese gaming giant’s legal representatives.
French journalist Julien Tellouck, reporting directly from CES 2025, shared details of this incident in a video posting on his YouTube channel.
According to Tellouck, a Genki representative confirmed to him that Nintendo’s legal team approached the accessory maker regarding the unofficial Switch 2 mockups present at their booth.
While Nintendo has not publicly commented on the matter, Tellouck recounted, "A Genki spokesperson told me that Nintendo’s lawyers had already made contact with the company.
However, as Genki has never signed confidentiality agreements or non-disclosure agreements with Nintendo, there are currently no legal grounds for action.
The representative assured me that, from Genki’s perspective, there is nothing for them to worry about."
This interaction provides insight into the lengths Nintendo will go to protect information related to its upcoming products and maintain strict control over leaks and unofficial announcements.
Although Genki stressed they have not violated any confidentiality by demonstrating concept accessories based on public speculation, the company has since been more guarded regarding any claims of having had access to actual Switch 2 hardware.
The Nintendo Switch 2, while yet to be officially revealed, remains the subject of intense industry speculation with accessory makers and developers positioning themselves for its eventual debut.
Genki’s CES 2025 showcase demonstrates both the excitement surrounding the next generation of Nintendo hardware and the importance of remaining within legal boundaries when dealing with unannounced products.
As of this writing, there is no independently verifiable evidence regarding Genki’s direct access to a legitimate Nintendo Switch 2 console, and Nintendo has made no public statements confirming or denying details about the hardware.
For now, the gaming community continues to eagerly monitor developments, with accessory makers like Genki leading the charge in anticipating the future of the Nintendo Switch brand.
