Pokemon Sword and Shield Datamine Reveals Crown Tundra DLC Details and New Characters

Recent datamining efforts have brought to light new insights about the upcoming Crown Tundra DLC expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield on Nintendo Switch.

These discoveries, made within the files of the already released Isle of Armor DLC, shed new light on Game Freak’s post-launch roadmap for their critically acclaimed 2019 RPG.

Pokemon Sword and Shield, developed by Game Freak and released exclusively for Nintendo Switch in November 2019, has become one of the fastest-selling titles in the franchise, surpassing 25.82 million units sold as of March 2023.

The introduction of the Expansion Pass marked a new era for the series, offering downloadable content in two main parts: Isle of Armor, released in June 2020, and the forthcoming Crown Tundra, scheduled for later that year. Building on previous investigations, prominent Pokemon dataminers such as mattyoukhana have uncovered further evidence of new human characters set to debut in the Crown Tundra DLC.

Notably, they identified character models for Peony—a new 'village chief'—and a female adventurer, who is referenced as Peony’s daughter in the character background.

Additional models for generic non-playable villagers were also found.

According to information shared by mattyoukhana, these models appear to represent both specific story characters and broader village inhabitants, highlighting a richer narrative environment for the expansion. Further analysis by SciresM, another well-known figure in the datamining community, reportedly revealed entries for the final Pokedex numbers associated with the Crown Tundra.

Their findings indicate that the DLC will expand the Pokemon roster to at least 898 species, factoring in the inclusion of two new Regis, the Legendary Pokemon Calyrex, and two unrevealed Pokemon internally dubbed 'Hakuba' and 'Kokuba.' The codenames translate to 'White Horse' and 'Black Horse' in English, and their connection to Calyrex suggests new forms or combinations within the Crown Tundra storyline. Additionally, SciresM noted that spots for Mythical Pokemon could still be added in future updates, with Pokedex entries progressing beyond 899.

This aligns with Game Freak’s pattern of gradually rolling out new Pokemon through special events or later patches. The Crown Tundra DLC continues to generate excitement among the Pokemon community, underlining the enduring appeal of Pokemon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch.

While the data unearthed by these skilled dataminers is based on actual game files, it’s important to recognize that further official information from Game Freak or Nintendo may provide more context or introduce additional surprises.

For now, players can look forward to a deeper exploration of the Galar region, new legendary encounters, and a host of fresh content as the Crown Tundra expansion approaches its highly anticipated release on the eShop.
