Springfox Games, a Hong Kong-based indie developer, has officially announced that its warmly anticipated title, Nif Nif, is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Slated for a digital release on June 19, 2025 via the Nintendo eShop, pre-orders for Nif Nif are now live, reflecting growing interest in this innovative family-friendly roguelike deck builder.
Nif Nif initially captured attention as a successful Kickstarter project, where backers helped bring its unique vision to life.
Set in a whimsical, colorful world, players accompany a little piglet and his cat companion as they work to rescue their friends from the sinister Goo polluting the forest.
Gameplay revolves around strategic card battles that challenge players to clean up the mess and restore harmony—all without a hint of violence.
This focus on non-violent, accessible gameplay is core to Nif Nif’s identity.
According to game director Masha Mallet, the mechanics were inspired by her autistic son, who is sensitive to violent content.
"The concept of cleaning as a gameplay mechanic was born from my desire to craft a positive, family-friendly game.
Seeing how my son responds to games without violence deeply influenced this choice," Mallet explained.
She notes that the piglet protagonist was intentionally selected for its cultural significance, with pigs in Chinese tradition often seen as symbols of harmony and togetherness.
Nif Nif aims to serve a broad spectrum of players, from seasoned fans of deck-building games to families, children (who can practice mental math), and those new to video games.
Its easy-to-learn controls are paired with underlying strategic depth for players seeking a challenge.
The game’s non-violent approach creates a supportive environment that encourages values like friendship, care for nature, and cooperation.
Key features of Nif Nif include procedurally generated forest maps, two playable characters (Nif Nif the piglet and Cat, each with their own unique decks), and engaging side activities like gardening and cooking.
Players can collect seeds, grow plants, and create hot soups—serving as power-ups—to aid their journey.
With seven different hats that modify abilities, unlockable content, achievements, and a cast of quirky NPCs, the experience is designed to be both welcoming and rich with replay value.
Springfox Games is distributing Nif Nif exclusively as a digital title on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
Its visually inviting style and focus on inclusivity position it among the most notable indie releases in the Nintendo Switch lineup for 2025.
Players interested in experiencing Nif Nif’s gentle, strategy-driven gameplay can secure their Nintendo Switch pre-order now ahead of its official June 19, 2025 launch.
