Description

At PAX, Gearbox Publishing and Hopoo Games officially unveiled Alloyed Collective, a major downloadable content (DLC) expansion for the acclaimed action roguelike Risk of Rain 2.

The announcement demonstrates ongoing support for the title, which has built a dedicated following since its initial release and strong performance on platforms like the Nintendo Switch and eShop.

While Gearbox and Hopoo Games have yet to confirm a release window for Alloyed Collective, the content and features showcased position the DLC as a significant update for new and returning players alike. Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective offers extensive new gameplay elements designed to deepen the game’s challenge and replayability.

According to the developers, the DLC introduces six dynamic stages set across Petrichor V, each offering unique environmental hazards and level layouts.

The expansion’s environments range from cliffside scrapyards and industrial strongholds to winding machine caverns, pushing survivors into the heart of Solus territory.

Example locations include Pretender’s Precipice, a hazardous cliffside littered with abandoned Solus technology, and Iron Alluvium, a desert outpost built for machinery rather than humans. Players will be able to master two survivors—one returning and one entirely new—each tailored for the shifting dangers ahead.

Additionally, Alloyed Collective includes seven new drone types that players can deploy and customize via in-game stations, further enabling strategic experimentation.

These mechanical allies are complemented by a roster of seven new enemy types, signaling a heightened threat from the Solus, who have been constructing new adversaries and are now actively hunting the player characters. The expansion also promises a formidable new teleporter encounter, culminating in a final boss that redefines the game’s endgame scenarios.

Players can further enhance their arsenal with 15 new items, each representing lost United Earth Space property, which can be discovered and equipped throughout the adventure. A key feature highlighted by Gearbox and Hopoo Games is Alloyed Collective’s cooperative accessibility.

Only one player in a multiplayer lobby needs to own the Alloyed Collective DLC to unlock its monsters, stages, and items for the entire session.

However, only DLC owners gain access to select the two new survivors and permanently unlock new items, logbooks, and additional content. Risk of Rain 2 originally launched in August 2020 on Nintendo Switch, following a period of Early Access on other platforms.

The title has achieved significant sales milestones, consistently ranking among popular games on the eShop and earning praise for its dynamic, cooperative multiplayer experience.

Both Gearbox and Hopoo Games have maintained a reputation for listening to the Risk of Rain community, delivering robust post-launch support and regularly expanding the game’s universe. A new trailer showcasing Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective is now available, providing players their first look at the DLC’s environments and new features.

While the official release date for Alloyed Collective is still forthcoming, fans can anticipate more news from Gearbox and Hopoo Games as development continues.

Stay tuned for further updates on Risk of Rain 2 and the latest developments on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
