Retro Fighters, a renowned name in the gaming controller market, has officially launched its Kickstarter campaign for the Defender Pro Series controller—a device built to connect seamlessly with contemporary and retro hardware alike.
Celebrating their 10th anniversary, the company introduces the Defender Pro as a cutting-edge evolution in third-party controller design, offering compatibility with an impressive array of platforms: PlayStation 1, 2, and 3, PlayStation Classic, Windows PCs (including Steam and Steam Deck), Nintendo Switch, and Mister FPGA systems.
The Defender Pro Series controller is now available on Kickstarter for a starting price of $63 (approximately £43, excluding shipping), representing a 10% discount over its eventual retail price when it becomes widely available.
This competitive pricing is part of the campaign’s launch initiative to encourage early backers and long-term supporters of Retro Fighters.
Four color variants—Red, Blue, Gray, and Black—are on offer for initial backers.
Additionally, two stretch goal colors, 'smoke' and 'lemon', may be unlocked if the campaign meets further funding milestones.
Building on the success of the original Defender controller, the Defender Pro encompasses significant upgrades appreciated by enthusiasts and professional gamers alike.
One highly anticipated feature is the inclusion of Sixaxis motion-sensing functionality for PS3 via Bluetooth—a capability absent from its predecessor.
Users will also benefit from dual wireless technology for flexible connection via both 2.4GHz wireless dongle and standard Bluetooth.
The controller’s D-Pad has been redesigned for improved accuracy, while newly integrated Hall-effect analog sticks are engineered to eliminate drift and improve longevity, providing a precise experience favored by industry professionals.
In response to community feedback, the Defender Pro incorporates pressure-sensitive buttons, customizable analog or digital trigger stops, enhanced L2/R2 sensitivity, and anti-friction rings to reduce component wear.
Gamers can also assign custom commands with programmable back macro buttons, offering a competitive edge in demanding titles.
With a wireless range of up to 30 feet, a high polling rate of 1000Hz, low latency, adjustable vibration feedback, and a clear LED indicator, the Defender Pro is designed to deliver immersive and responsive gameplay across platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and Windows PC.
Each controller package includes a USB receiver, PlayStation receiver, a durable braided USB-C cable, and a limited-edition Defender collectible pin, ensuring users have all the essentials straight out of the box.
While Retro Fighters has not yet disclosed a fixed release date for retail availability, the ongoing Kickstarter campaign presents an opportunity for early adopters to secure the Defender Pro Series controller at an introductory price.
Interested backers can support the project through the official Kickstarter page.
With an extensive feature set and cross-platform design, the Defender Pro positions itself as a compelling choice for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC gamers seeking both innovation and retro compatibility.
