Nintendo has launched a Star Fox-themed event in Tetris 99 to coincide with the release of Star Fox on the Switch 2.
The 55th Maximus Cup runs from July 10 to July 13, 2026, and offers players an opportunity to earn a Star Fox-themed in-game package by competing in the online battle-royale title on Nintendo Switch.
Event details and unlock requirements
The Maximus Cup begins on July 10, 2026 (12:00 a.m.
PT) and ends on July 13, 2026.
Players who participate in the event and accumulate at least 100 event points will unlock a special Star Fox theme that includes themed Tetrimino designs, original artwork and music inspired by the Switch 2 release of Star Fox.
Nintendo confirmed the 55th Maximus Cup will feature Star Fox-inspired Tetriminos, music, artwork and a new unlockable theme for eligible participants.

Switch icons and Platinum Points schedule
Alongside the Maximus Cup announcement, Nintendo released Star Fox-themed Switch icons available for purchase with Platinum Points.
Icons are priced at 10 Platinum Points each, while backgrounds and borders cost 5 Platinum Points each.
Nintendo noted these icon elements are available for a limited time.
The icon release is staggered across four waves:
- Wave 1: June 24, 6:00 p.m.

For Switch and Switch 2 owners tracking timed content, the Maximus Cup presents a short window to collect the Star Fox theme, while the staggered icon waves provide multiple opportunities to spend earned Platinum Points on Star Fox-themed profile items.
