E3 and ReedPop End Partnership: ESA Plans Major Reinvention for Gaming Expo The Electronic Entertainment Expo, widely known as E3, has long stood as one of the gaming industry’s most influential events, drawing major publishers, developers, and fans to showcase the latest innovations and releases.

Historically hosted at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, E3 has served as a pivotal platform for announcements related to Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and other leaders in gaming.

Recently, however, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA)—the governing body behind E3—announced a significant change: ReedPop, the organizer behind notable conventions such as PAX, will no longer be involved in the production of future E3 events. This development comes after ReedPop and the ESA mutually agreed to part ways, despite having entered a multi-year agreement in 2022 to help shape the future of E3.

According to a report by gamesindustry.biz, the ESA has notified the Los Angeles Convention Centre that E3 will not take place at the venue in 2024.

While the ESA has not officially canceled E3 2024, any potential event will require a new location, hinting at a broader transformation for the expo moving forward. Both companies released statements emphasizing the collaborative nature of their decision.

ReedPop’s games events boss, Kyle Marsden-Kish, expressed gratitude toward the ESA’s commitment to the video game industry and conveyed optimism for E3’s next chapter, remarking, "Although our partnership with E3 has concluded, we eagerly anticipate seeing how the event evolves under the ESA’s guidance." Echoing that sentiment, Stanley Pierre-Louis, President and CEO of the ESA, thanked ReedPop for its contributions over the past fourteen months and reiterated the association’s pledge to reinvigorate E3.

He said, "E3 remains unmatched in its reach within our industry.

We are exploring every aspect of the event, from its structure to its venue, as we consider how best to adapt it for the future of the video game industry.

The ESA is dedicated to serving as a uniting force, and we look forward to announcing updates about E3 in the coming months." E3 2024’s fate is yet to be officially decided, but what is clear from the ESA’s comments is that a "complete reinvention" of the expo is being planned for 2025.

As of now, there are no further details on that vision, but industry observers and stakeholders await more information on how the world’s most famous gaming event will evolve. For Nintendo and other major industry players, E3 has historically been a vital stage for unveiling flagship games, new hardware—such as the Nintendo Switch—and major collaborations.

As the ESA continues to shape E3’s future, many will be watching closely to see how the event adapts to ongoing changes in the video game landscape.
