Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition Debuts on Nintendo Switch with Updated Soundtrack

Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition launched this week on Nintendo Switch, celebrating the iconic series with both digital and forthcoming physical editions.

Developed and published by Ubisoft, the Rayman franchise has captivated platformer fans since its original 1995 debut, known for its vibrant visuals and distinctive soundtrack.

However, the latest release has sparked a mixed response among fans, largely due to notable changes in the game’s music. One of the most memorable aspects of the original Rayman was its soundtrack, composed by the late Rémi Gazel.

While Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition retains some classic tracks, several pieces have been replaced or newly arranged in the updated version.

Comparisons between the original and the new edition reveal straightforward replacements as well as fresh musical interpretations, drawing attention from dedicated fans who hold the original score in high regard. The rationale for altering Rayman’s audio landscape has not been officially disclosed by Ubisoft.

Some community discussion has speculated about possible rights issues relating to the original compositions, but this remains unconfirmed.

The passing of original composer Rémi Gazel in 2019 has also left a void that shaped the direction of the new soundtrack. To craft the updated music, Ubisoft enlisted Christophe Héral, a composer already familiar to Rayman aficionados through his acclaimed work on Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, and other notable Ubisoft projects such as Beyond Good & Evil.

Héral expressed his personal investment in the project through social media, sharing his experience: "It means a great deal to me, as I spent the summer re-recording the music of my dear friend Rémi Gazel and composing new tracks for this release.

I did my utmost to honor his legacy.

The soundtrack will be available soon, recorded with Patrice Heral on drums and Pascal Corriu on guitar.

I’m grateful to Ubisoft for their trust." Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition is available digitally on the Nintendo eShop, with a physical release planned for a later date.

This edition marks a key milestone for the Rayman series, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and stands as one of Ubisoft’s flagship platformers.

The updates to Rayman’s soundtrack underscore the enduring influence of both original and current composers, reflecting the series’ legacy as it welcomes new generations of gamers on Nintendo Switch.
