Nintendo has confirmed strong global demand for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ahead of its Nintendo Switch 2 launch and says it is working to replenish sold-out special hardware tied to the franchise's 40th anniversary.

The remake's reveal and subsequent gameplay trailer have driven substantial pre-orders and attention, with Nintendo of America's trailer surpassing 10 million views on YouTube.

The company says pre-sale interest has placed the game and related products high on bestseller charts in multiple regions.

Nintendo executives acknowledge that the scale of demand outpaced expectations and that limited stock affected the availability of The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 system and related Pro Controller bundles in many markets.

Bill van Zyll, vice president and general manager for Nintendo in Latin America, told reporter Coelho that Nintendo 'underestimated how well it would be received' and apologized for shortages, noting that the United States and Brazil were among the markets showing especially strong demand.

He said Nintendo is actively working on replenishments for the special hardware, controllers, and software, but warned that restocks will take time and that the company cannot confirm dates or quantities yet.

On plans for the 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 hardware specifically, van Zyll said Nintendo intends to restock the special controller, hardware, and software, but declined to provide timing or quantity details while those plans are finalized.

Retail partners have begun preparing for launch events despite limited stock.

Best Buy has confirmed a midnight launch for Ocarina of Time and will carry a limited number of The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 systems and Pro Controllers at launch.

Release dates are confirmed: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, while the 40th Anniversary Edition console is scheduled for October 29, 2026.

Nintendo urges consumers to monitor official storefronts, including the Nintendo eShop and approved retailers, for pre-order and restock updates.

For players seeking to secure copies, Nintendo recommends checking regional pre-order bonus listings and retailer announcements as limited allocations are distributed ahead of launch.
