A modder has built a striking hybrid controller that marries modern Switch components with classic Wii ergonomics.

In a video posted to YouTube, creator KOUZEX demonstrates a custom device that places a current-generation Joy-Con board inside a Wii Remote–style shell and retains magnetic attachment to a Nintendo Switch console.

The creator described the newer Joy-Con revision as a noticeable refinement over the original Joy-Con primarily because of the larger form factor, though he noted that even larger controllers can become uncomfortable during extended play sessions.

KOUZEX also emphasized that the project was far more involved than simply transplanting electronics: differing button layouts required a complete manual remapping of inputs to preserve full access to the Switch controller functions, and physically mating the two shells demanded careful fitting and assembly.

According to the video, the finished hybrid connects magnetically to the console in the same way as standard Joy-Con units and was tested with both motion- and button-focused titles.

KOUZEX demonstrated the mod while running Super Mario Galaxy — a title originally released for Wii in 2007 — and Nintendo Switch Sports, a motion-enabled game released for Nintendo Switch in April 2022.

These tests were used to validate button mapping, motion control responsiveness, and overall ergonomics.

The project highlights the ongoing interest among hobbyists in adapting different generations of Nintendo hardware.

It also illustrates the practical engineering hurdles such work entails: PCB relocation, custom wiring, button-actuation alignment, and firmware/input remapping to match the host console's expectations.

The creator’s video walks viewers through many of these technical steps and shows the hybrid working in real gameplay scenarios.

For now, this remains a community-made modification showcased on YouTube rather than an official Nintendo product.

Nintendo has not announced native Wii Remote support for Nintendo Switch hardware, nor has it confirmed additional Wii game offerings for Nintendo Switch Online beyond existing services.

The hybrid is noteworthy as an example of how dedicated hobbyists are exploring ergonomic and nostalgic controller concepts for modern Switch play, and it may be of interest to developers and modders tracking cross-generation controller compatibility.
