However, while fans have flocked to fill their wardrobes with iconic clothing inspired by the beloved franchise, there has been a noticeable gap in themed footwear—until now. On August 26, 2021, PUMA, a global athletic brand that previously released collections inspired by Super Mario Bros.
and the NES, announced an exciting new collaboration with Nintendo centered around Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The announcement was delivered via PUMA’s official Twitter channel with a teaser that hinted at the partnership, sparking instant interest among fans of both the sneaker scene and the Nintendo Switch hit title. While the official details from PUMA and Nintendo were initially limited, respected sneaker publication Sneaker Freaker provided the first look at the collection.
According to the report, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons footwear series will include designs for both adults and children, catering to fans across generations.
The centerpiece of this partnership is a specially designed variant of PUMA’s Wild Rider line of sneakers.
True to the aesthetic of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the shoes feature soothing color palettes with gentle greens and calming blues, reflecting the relaxed, inviting vibe of the game’s island setting.
Notably, the heel features both the distinctive PUMA logo and the instantly recognizable Animal Crossing leaf emblem, while the insole is branded with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons logo near the heel. In addition to the Wild Rider sneakers, the collaboration will also introduce special Suede and Future Rider sets.
