Xbox head Phil Spencer has once again highlighted Xbox’s ongoing collaboration with Nintendo, confirming the company’s commitment to supporting the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
In a recent comprehensive interview with entertainment outlet Variety, Spencer discussed the future of Xbox Game Studios titles on Nintendo platforms, the significance of Nintendo within the gaming ecosystem, and the broader role Xbox seeks to play in the rapidly evolving gaming landscape.
As the gaming community eagerly awaits the official release of Nintendo Switch 2, Spencer was asked about Xbox's involvement with Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
Building on a history of select Xbox Game Studios titles appearing on Nintendo Switch, Spencer made it clear that this partnership was far from over.
"We’ve supported the original Switch and intend to continue that support with Switch 2," Spencer explained.
He emphasized the unique opportunity Nintendo offers for reaching audiences beyond PC and Xbox, describing Nintendo as a "great partner" for Xbox.
This ongoing collaboration, he noted, "allows us to expand our community and share our franchises with a wider audience." Spencer further remarked on the importance of ongoing investment in their games, stressing how supporting Nintendo platforms remains integral to Xbox’s strategy.
Also addressed in the interview was the growing anticipation around next-gen console announcements.
When questioned if Nintendo’s unveiling of its next-generation hardware put any pressure on Xbox to reveal its own plans, Spencer responded that his focus remains on growing the Xbox community rather than racing to hardware reveals.
"All of us in the industry should concentrate on our player communities," he stated.
Spencer acknowledged the inspiration he draws from other industry leaders, but reaffirmed confidence in Xbox’s current roadmap, noting, "There are three billion people playing video games worldwide, and our priority is to make Xbox increasingly relevant to this vast audience."
Spencer highlighted that part of this relevancy means ensuring Xbox games and platform features are available across as many places as possible—including cloud gaming, PC, and consoles like the Nintendo Switch and its successor.
He concluded, "We're driven by the goal of expanding our franchises and platform to be a major part of gaming for as many of those three billion gamers as possible."
While specifics regarding which Xbox franchises might arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 have yet to be confirmed, Spencer’s statements reinforce the growing trend of cross-platform collaboration.
Gamers can look forward to a potentially richer eShop library and continued synergy between two of the industry's most influential companies as the Nintendo Switch 2 approaches its anticipated release.
