Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse—Square Enix Reveals Characters and Minigames for Nintendo Switch Release

Square Enix has continued to build excitement for its upcoming narrative adventure, Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, by revealing an expanded look at the game’s cast and exclusive minigames.

Scheduled for launch on Nintendo Switch on February 19, 2026, Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse follows the legacy of its predecessor, blending mystery, folklore, and striking visual design into a riveting adventure tailored for fans of narrative-driven titles.

Set on the enigmatic Kameshima Island, the game introduces a diverse collection of characters central to its supernatural drama.

Among the prominent figures is Shinobu Wakamura, renowned as the driving force behind Kameshima’s development.

While highly respected for his numerous achievements on the island, his abrasive personality and the rumors surrounding him make him a complex figure at the community’s core.

His son, Shotaro Wakamura, presents a stark contrast—recognized for his sincerity and breadth of talents, Shotaro is praised by those around him for his earnest demeanor. The island’s traditions are embodied by Tsuyu Minakuchi, a former champion ama diver and grandmother to Yuza Minakuchi.

Her fame stems from legendary skills honed in her youth, most notably her vigorous rivalry with fellow diver Chie Toyama.

Chie, updated now as the unofficial leader of Kameshima’s ama divers, commands respect for her natural aptitude underwater, inspiring the local moniker “Chie the Mermaid” due to her effortless grace beneath the waves.

Rounding out the cast are Kikuko Tsutsui—a lifelong Kameshima resident known for her welcoming, nurturing nature—Kippei Ikoma, director of a tourism-focused venture company based in Ise City, and Masaru Ide, a detective from the Mie Prefectural Police often humorously noted for always being near the scene when incidents arise. In addition to its richly drawn characters, Square Enix has unveiled innovative minigames that further immerse players in island life.

‘Underwater Gathering’ allows players to step into the fins of an ama diver, scouring the ocean depths to harvest sea creatures, increase their Diver Rank, and maintain a detailed ‘Gathering Log’ of their underwater discoveries.

Gameplay is infused with strategic challenges, such as limited oxygen supplies and skill upgrades, creating rewarding gameplay loops beyond the central narrative. Meanwhile, the ‘Mocking Birds’ minigame encourages a keen observational eye, with collectible stickers hidden throughout the story’s settings.

These collectibles build on a tradition established in previous Paranormasight titles, introducing an added layer of exploration and replayability for completionist players. Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, both physically and digitally via the Nintendo eShop.

With its engaging character lineup and creative new minigames, Square Enix aims to deliver another compelling adventure for its dedicated fan base.

Stay tuned for more updates and official trailers as the February 2026 release approaches.
