Today marks the official debut of Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch 2, expanding the reach of Blizzard Entertainment’s celebrated hero shooter to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
The Switch 2 version, made available via the Nintendo eShop, was highly anticipated due to promises of enhanced graphics and smoother gameplay compared to its predecessor on the original Nintendo Switch.
Overwatch, a staple of competitive multiplayer gaming since its original 2016 launch, has continued to attract a large player base across platforms including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox—even as fans anticipated its optimized arrival on Nintendo's latest console.
Upon the launch of Overwatch for Nintendo Switch 2, players swiftly took to social media and community forums to flag several notable issues encountered within the new port.
Chief among these were significant performance concerns.
Prior to release, Blizzard committed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch would achieve up to 60 frames per second, harnessing the increased capabilities of the updated hardware.
However, early users reported that in-game action felt limited to around 30 frames per second, suggesting potential errors in the build deployed or suboptimal optimization.
Responding promptly, Blizzard acknowledged the concerns regarding frame rates and performance.
In a statement, the company clarified that they are “actively aware of issues affecting performance on the Nintendo Switch 2 version” and that the Overwatch development team is “preparing a patch to address and resolve these concerns.” While Blizzard has not provided an exact timeline for when this performance update will be deployed, the reassurance that a patch is imminent has been welcomed by the Overwatch community.
Beyond performance, Blizzard has detailed additional issues currently affecting the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Overwatch.
These include problems with custom control settings, where user-defined button binds may not save correctly or may revert to default unexpectedly.
Furthermore, players who participate in the Mystery Heroes mode should consult the latest official patch notes, as updates have been made to this game type as a part of the transition to the new platform.
A selection of cosmetic items within Overwatch is also temporarily unavailable on the Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Notable missing cosmetics include Ana’s “Sparklers” Victory Pose, Mercy’s “Pompompurin x Mercy” Avatar and Spray, along with voice lines for heroes such as Emre, Anran, Mizuki, and Domina.
Blizzard assures players that these cosmetic items will be restored in a forthcoming patch, and encourages users to monitor official Overwatch channels and Nintendo Direct announcements for updates.
Despite these launch setbacks, Blizzard’s commitment to quickly addressing technical and cosmetic issues demonstrates the company’s continued investment in providing a quality Overwatch experience on new hardware platforms.
As the Overwatch community awaits the upcoming patch, players can expect ongoing support and communication from both Blizzard and Nintendo’s support teams, ensuring that the Nintendo Switch 2 version ultimately meets fans’ expectations for performance and feature parity.
