Nintendo of America has tapped former Donkey Kong world champion Steve Wiebe to promote the LEGO Donkey Kong arcade cabinet, a marketing move that connects the new set to one of competitive gaming's most storied rivalries.

The 90-second commercial, posted to Nintendo of America's social channels on July 23, 2026, casts Wiebe in a reflective role as he revisits the highs and lows of pursuing the arcade high score.

The LEGO Donkey Kong set, produced by the LEGO Group, is scheduled for release on August 1, 2026, with a retail price of $199.99.

The boxed set includes 1,367 pieces and is listed for pre-order now at both LEGO and Amazon.

LEGO describes the build as a faithful recreation of the classic Donkey Kong arcade cabinet, with a largely functional gameplay element built into the model.

Steve Wiebe rose to public attention through the 2007 documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.

In the early 2000s Wiebe bought a Donkey Kong arcade cabinet and pursued the world record, submitting a videotaped score of 947,200 points to Twin Galaxies in 2003 and later becoming the first documented player to surpass one million points on the game.

That run and his rivalry with long-time champion Billy Mitchell are central chapters in Donkey Kong competitive history.

The commercial acknowledges that history without revisiting the controversy in detail.

Nintendo of America framed the spot playfully on social media, telling Wiebe he was “not alone” while promoting the LEGO release.

In the ad itself, Wiebe reflects on his past challenge and affirms that he would undertake the pursuit again because of his enduring love for the game, highlighting the personal and cultural appeal of Donkey Kong.

Twin Galaxies later removed some of Mitchell’s scores from its leaderboards after an investigation, a development that reshaped the public record around those disputed high scores and became a defining episode in arcade competition lore.

For Nintendo fans and collectors, the LEGO Donkey Kong set offers both a tangible tribute to a classic Nintendo arcade title and a crossover moment that brings a real-world competitive gaming icon into mainstream marketing.

With pre-orders live and the August 1 on-sale date confirmed, the set will be available through LEGO, Amazon and other major retailers.
