Description

Nintendo Switch Online has achieved a new milestone, with the recent addition of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones for Game Boy Advance bringing the total number of playable titles on the service’s Expansion Pack tier to 300 in the West.

This development highlights both Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to expanding its subscription service and the rich variety now available to subscribers on Nintendo Switch.

Launched in 2018, Nintendo Switch Online introduced classic NES and SNES games to a new generation, later expanding to include Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy platforms under its Expansion Pack.

The service allows players to revisit beloved titles and experience updated multiplayer features, all accessible through the Nintendo Switch hub and individualized game catalogue apps on the console. The milestone count of 300 excludes SP (Special) versions, Japanese exclusives, and any upcoming additions from the GameCube library, which are set to make their debut alongside the impending Switch 2 launch.

Notably, the current tally would have surpassed this benchmark earlier had it not been for the removal of Super Soccer from the catalogue in March 2025.

Nonetheless, reaching 300 games confirms the service's steady growth. Commenting on the achievement, industry analysts note that Nintendo Switch Online’s roster has developed into one of the broadest selections in modern gaming subscriptions.

In addition to retro releases, users of the Expansion Pack receive access to unique offerings such as F-Zero 99, Tetris 99, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass, Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise, and Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion.

For those on the standard tier, the available library remains vast, currently sitting at 187 classic titles. Reflecting on areas for growth, community feedback often cites the desire for improved integration—such as merging the segmented game catalogue apps—and resuming a la carte eShop purchases, a model popular with previous platforms.

Despite these suggestions, the Nintendo Switch Online lineup is widely regarded as robust and continuously evolving. Looking ahead, Nintendo is set to expand its online ecosystem dramatically with the release of Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.

GameCube titles—including The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, SoulCalibur II, and F-Zero GX—will become available at launch exclusively for Expansion Pack subscribers on the new hardware.

The introduction of GameChat will further modernize the platform, enabling integrated voice chat through a built-in microphone.

Additionally, the upcoming camera compatibility (with any USB-C device) will allow players to connect face-to-face during gameplay sessions. Nintendo’s steady enhancements underscore its strategy of providing enduring value to Switch owners and gaming enthusiasts.

With more titles slated for release and innovative features like GameChat and GameCube support on the horizon, Nintendo Switch Online is poised for another era of growth and engagement.
