Nintendo has officially launched a new challenges feature for classic games on Nintendo Switch Online that will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, the DK Challenge is a limited-time event that tasks players with completing specific missions across several Donkey Kong titles available through Nintendo Classics on Switch Online.
The DK Challenge runs for a set window: it begins later today and continues through 12:59 a.m.
PT on Sept. 1.
Nintendo described the event as a time-limited celebration of Donkey Kong that spans NES, Super NES and Game Boy entries in the series.
Players who complete assigned missions will earn collectible digital Challenge Cards, and owners of Donkey Kong Bananza will have access to additional challenge sets.
Games included in the DK Challenge roster are Donkey Kong Bananza, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Donkey Kong (Game Boy), Donkey Kong Land, Donkey Kong Land 2 and Donkey Kong Land 3.
Many of these titles originate from Nintendo’s early arcade and console catalog and ports previously made available through the Nintendo Switch Online classics lineup.
Donkey Kong Country, developed by Rare and first released on the Super NES in 1994, is among the marquee entries featured.
Paraphrasing Nintendo’s announcement: the company said the DK Challenge will let players tackle bespoke missions across its Donkey Kong library on Nintendo Switch 2, earn collectible digital Challenge Cards for completing objectives, and access extra challenges if they own Donkey Kong Bananza.
Nintendo also released a trailer to accompany the announcement.
The Switch Online service, which has provided NES and SNES libraries and other classic content since its 2018 launch, is expanding how it engages players with legacy titles through these mission-based incentives.
By tying collectible rewards and time-limited events to the Switch Online Classics lineup, Nintendo is offering new reasons for both longtime fans and newcomers to revisit iconic Donkey Kong entries on the Nintendo Switch 2.
