JD.com, one of China's biggest e-commerce giants, has officially opened Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders to mainland Chinese consumers through its Hong Kong flagship store.
This move is significant as Nintendo does not currently plan a direct launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 in mainland China, making parallel imports from Hong Kong the primary channel for local gamers eager to access the upcoming hardware.
The Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch globally on June 5, 2025, is already generating overwhelming demand in the region.
JD.com's platform features five distinct Nintendo Switch 2 bundles, each priced at 3,889 RMB (approximately USD 539.82).
Notably, JD.com is offering a RMB 400 (USD 55.52) credit to customers following successful identity verification, a strategy aimed at preventing scalping and ensuring fair distribution.
This initiative effectively brings the cost of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World set in line with the official Hong Kong suggested retail price (HKD 3,750, or USD 485).
In contrast to previous console releases, which often carried substantial markups above Hong Kong and U.S.
retail prices when sold through unofficial channels, JD.com’s current pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 is seen by Chinese gamers as unusually fair and accessible.
The response from consumers has been extraordinary; within just a few days of pre-orders opening on May 22, 2025, more than 330,000 units were reserved through JD.com’s Hong Kong flagship store.
Of these, over 270,000 customers opted specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle.
To strengthen its anti-scalping measures, JD.com has implemented priority shipping for customers with a verified purchase history of Nintendo products dating back to 2017.
These long-time supporters are slated to receive their Nintendo Switch 2 consoles on launch day, synchronizing with the global release and further discouraging unhealthy resale practices.
Such efforts illustrate JD.com’s commitment to ensuring that genuine players, rather than resellers, benefit from early access to the new generation of Nintendo hardware.
Nintendo has enjoyed substantial growth in the Chinese market despite official distribution restrictions, in part thanks to robust demand for parallel imports via platforms like JD.com and the eShop.
The success of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders underscores the platform’s lasting appeal and the deep-rooted enthusiasm among Chinese gamers for Nintendo titles and hardware advancements.
As the global launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 approaches, both JD.com and Nintendo will be closely monitored for their handling of logistics, consumer satisfaction, and efforts to thwart scalping.
Gamers in mainland China now have an unprecedented opportunity to experience Nintendo’s latest innovations on release day, once again confirming the region's pivotal role in the worldwide gaming landscape.
