Description

Nintendo has once again raised the bar with the Nintendo Switch 2, unveiling major enhancements to user experience, particularly in capturing and saving gameplay moments.

Building on the success of the original Nintendo Switch, the upcoming hardware iteration boasts a dramatically expanded album applet, enabling players to preserve their in-game achievements and memories like never before. The official Nintendo website details these improvements, confirming that, beginning with firmware version 20.1.1, Nintendo Switch 2 users can store up to 15,000 screenshots directly on the system's internal memory.

This storage limit is mirrored on supported microSD Express cards, allowing for an additional 15,000 screenshots to be saved externally.

As a result, with a microSD Express card installed, users can manage a total of up to 30,000 screenshots between the system and card—triple the screenshot capacity seen on the original Nintendo Switch platform. The video capture limits have also seen a substantial upgrade.

Nintendo Switch 2 permits up to 1,500 gameplay video clips on the system memory, while the microSD Express card can support up to 5,000 additional video clips.

Altogether, this brings the combined storage capacity to 6,500 gameplay videos, a significant leap from the previous generation. For comparison, the original Nintendo Switch provided users with the ability to save up to 10,000 screenshots and 100 videos on an external microSD card.

These constraints have been thoroughly surpassed by the new system, allowing players much greater freedom to archive their favorite moments.

Additionally, Nintendo confirms that the core functionality for capturing gameplay footage remains user-friendly—by simply holding the dedicated capture button, players can instantly record up to 30 seconds of gameplay. It’s important to note that these expanded storage limits are only available from Nintendo Switch 2 firmware version 20.1.1 and up.

Users with earlier firmware are limited to 1,000 screenshots and 100 videos in system memory, without the option to save any media on a microSD Express card.

Gamers looking to take full advantage of the new features will need to ensure their systems are updated to the latest available firmware version. The enhancements demonstrate Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to player-centric innovation, reflecting the feedback and evolving demands of its dedicated gaming community.

With increased storage capabilities on the Nintendo Switch 2, content creators and gameplay enthusiasts alike will find even more reasons to capture and share their gaming experiences.
