Nintendo of Europe has confirmed it will begin phasing out sales of the original Nintendo Switch family in mid-February 2027, marking the end of retail availability for the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED models in the European market.

The company also said these systems will be removed from the European Nintendo Store at the same time.

The move comes just weeks ahead of the Nintendo Switch's tenth anniversary; the console first launched worldwide on March 3, 2017.

According to Nintendo of Europe, the phase-out affects shipments to retailers and digital storefront listings in Europe only.

The company has not provided any information about changes to production or sales in other regions.

Nintendo emphasized that online services linked to these systems will remain operational: Nintendo's statement confirms that Nintendo Switch Online and related online services will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future on supported platforms.

Rhythm Heaven Groove, which launched last week, may stand as one of the last first-party releases for the original Switch line.

A demo for the title is currently available on the Nintendo eShop in affected territories.

While Nintendo has not labeled the game as the final first-party release, its recent arrival coincides with the announced phase-out schedule.

What this means for owners and retailers

- Retail availability in Europe: From mid-February 2027, retailers in Europe will no longer receive new stock of the original Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED from Nintendo of Europe.

- European Nintendo Store: The Switch 1 family will be removed from digital storefront listings in the European region at the same time.

- Online services: Nintendo has reassured customers that Nintendo Switch Online and other online functions tied to the systems will continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

Nintendo of Europe provided the timeline and scope of the phase-out directly to regional partners and consumers, but has not issued details about production timelines outside Europe.

Given the Switch's launch on March 3, 2017, this announcement frames the end of the first-generation Switch family's commercial availability in Europe after nearly a decade on the market.
