Description

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is set to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025, bringing with it significant enhancements and fresh content for both new fans and returning players.

Developed by Monolith Soft and originally released on the Wii U in 2015, this acclaimed JRPG is being updated for the modern era, with Nintendo announcing new story content and additional improvements to the gameplay experience. A major highlight for veterans of Xenoblade Chronicles X is the introduction of an all-new story chapter, designed to seamlessly continue the narrative after the original game's conclusion.

In contrast to a standalone scenario, this new content integrates directly with the existing story, inviting players to keep adventuring on the planet Mira after the main ending.

Nintendo shared a detailed overview of this expansion on its official Japanese website, outlining the narrative direction and pivotal conflicts players can expect. According to Monolith Soft’s official synopsis, following the climactic events within the Lifehold, Mira is suddenly beset by a mysterious phenomenon that causes entire areas to vanish into a void—swallowing all matter and even light itself.

Complicating matters further, a dangerous new enemy known as the Ghosts emerges from this darkness and targets the members of BLADE, the organization at the heart of the Xenoblade universe.

Just as hope dwindles, a powerful Skell called the Ares—once thought lost along with its pilot—returns to defend the survivors.

With new threats appearing, including the remnants of the Ganglion and the arrival of an enigmatic floating continent over Mira, BLADE must once again risk everything to secure humanity’s future in an uncertain world. The Definitive Edition will also premier new characters that add depth to the expanded storyline.

Liesel, a test pilot and ex-military flyer from Arms Company, plays a key role in the development of a new Skell codenamed “Hraesvelg.” Meanwhile, Neilnail, an archaeologist with a passion for alien civilizations, brings curiosity and scholarly insight as she explores Earth’s transplanted cultures on Mira.

These characters are designed to enrich the narrative tapestry and offer players fresh perspectives within the complex world Monolith Soft has crafted. In addition to the narrative additions, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition promises a suite of gameplay improvements, although further details on these enhancements will be revealed closer to launch.

Players can look forward to refined mechanics, graphics updates, and quality-of-life features based on feedback from the original release. With its updated story campaign, new cast members, and anticipated improvements, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is shaping up as one of the must-play RPGs on Nintendo Switch for 2025.

Fans can look forward to experiencing Monolith Soft’s sprawling sci-fi adventure with all the benefits of modern hardware and enhanced content. Stay tuned for more updates as the release approaches, and be sure to visit the official Nintendo website or the Switch eShop for the latest details and pre-order information.
