Following recent updates to Nintendo of Japan’s website, fresh details have emerged about Samus Aran’s innovative new vehicle—Vi-O-La—a motorbike designed to expand traversal and combat options for players in the next mainline Metroid Prime entry. Announced during a recent Nintendo Direct, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond marks the return of Retro Studios to the franchise after years of development anticipation.

The Metroid Prime series is renowned for its immersive first-person exploration and methodical gameplay structure known as Metroidvania.

For the first time in the franchise, Samus' Vi-O-La motorbike will enable rapid travel over expansive landscapes, adding new layers to exploration and progression. On Nintendo’s official site, the company confirms that Vi-O-La is more than just a means of transportation.

Samus can utilize a temporary speed boost to break through enemy lines and mineral deposits, leveraging the bike’s power to blaze a path forward.

In addition, the Vi-O-La introduces a "power slide" maneuver, an offensive technique that allows Samus to steer and evade during high-speed movement while simultaneously dealing with groups of enemies. Expanding on traversal and combat, Vi-O-La is equipped with advanced projectile weaponry that allows Samus to lock on to up to five targets at once and attack them using a unique orb that ricochets between enemies.
