Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Welcomes Newcomers With Fresh Story on Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has officially reassured players that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will deliver an entirely new story, marking a fresh entry point for both longtime fans and those new to the Metroid Prime universe.

Announced during a highly anticipated Nintendo Direct, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is being developed by Retro Studios and is set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

This clarification comes in response to concerns from newcomers, as only the remastered version of the first Metroid Prime game is currently available on the eShop for Switch, with no remasters of Metroid Prime 2 or Metroid Prime 3 available yet on the platform. The Metroid Prime Trilogy, which includes Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, is renowned for its deep narrative centered on the mysterious Phazon energy, an element capable of mutating living organisms.

With Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, this key storyline reached its conclusion.

A Nintendo spokesperson recently clarified, 'The main series up to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption revolved around the story of Phazon.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is the beginning of a new narrative, allowing players unfamiliar with previous titles to enjoy the latest adventure without prior knowledge.' For many Switch owners, this is welcome news.

With only the first Metroid Prime Remastered currently accessible on the Nintendo Switch, players were concerned about missing important context by not having access to Metroid Prime 2: Echoes or Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Nintendo’s confirmation that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond serves as a standalone entry alleviates these worries, ensuring that the next chapter is accessible regardless of experience with earlier games in the series. The Metroid Prime franchise has enjoyed critical acclaim since its debut on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, becoming a staple for Nintendo platforms and recognized for its atmospheric, first-person exploration.

Over the years, the series has collectively sold millions of copies and is frequently cited as a benchmark for first-person adventure games.

Retro Studios, known for its work on all major Metroid Prime entries, continues to helm the development of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, promising the ambitious design and polished gameplay fans have come to expect. While Nintendo has not announced remasters for the second and third entries in the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch, fans can look forward to Metroid Prime 4: Beyond offering a self-contained experience, inviting both veterans and new players to explore Samus Aran’s latest adventure.
