Nintendo Ends Repair Services for Nintendo 2DS XL and 3DS Models: What Players Need to Know

Nintendo, the iconic Kyoto-based game developer and hardware manufacturer, has announced the discontinuation of its official repair services for the Nintendo 2DS XL and all Nintendo 3DS models.

This decision marks the end of an era for the beloved handheld platforms, which have played a major role in Nintendo’s hardware lineup since the original 3DS system’s debut in 2011.

The update, aimed at players who may still be using or collecting these systems, was delivered through Nintendo’s customer service channel on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The Nintendo 3DS family, including the New Nintendo 2DS XL, sold over 75 million units worldwide during its lifecycle, becoming a staple for portable gaming and serving as a launchpad for numerous critically acclaimed titles.

However, as the company pivots towards supporting newer platforms like the Nintendo Switch and its burgeoning eShop ecosystem, maintaining the infrastructure and sourcing parts for legacy systems has become increasingly difficult. In a statement shared by Nintendo’s customer support team, the company specified, “We have discontinued repair services for the New Nintendo 2DS XL as of September 4, 2025, due to the exhaustion of necessary repair parts.

Repairs for other Nintendo 3DS family systems have also been discontinued.” This move follows a previous notice regarding the gradual phaseout of refurbishment and repair programs for legacy handhelds. Players currently experiencing issues with their Nintendo 2DS XL or 3DS devices will no longer be able to access official repair solutions from Nintendo.

While third-party repair shops may continue to offer services for these systems, the lack of genuine replacement parts raises concerns about long-term usability and preservation of these devices.
