Nintendo Switch Online members have received an unexpected treat this week with not one, but two major updates to the Nintendo Music app—an unusual occurrence for the subscription service known for its steady, weekly cadence.
Traditionally, Switch Online's Music app—exclusive to active subscribers—delivers a single content update each week.
However, following the surprise release of the Donkey Kong: DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC, Nintendo has continued the momentum by launching a 'special release' themed around the highly anticipated Donkey Kong Bananza.
This new release introduces a curated selection of tracks from Donkey Kong Bananza to the Music app.
Among the featured tracks are fan favorites such as 'Kong Bananza,' '2D Challenge Course #1 (Jungle Level),' and 'Breaking Through (Heart of Gold).' These soundtracks showcase the energetic and vibrant compositions that characterize the Donkey Kong series, adding yet another layer of immersion for fans enjoying the latest content via Nintendo Switch Online.
In recent months, Nintendo has adopted a similar rollout strategy, as seen when select Kirby Air Riders tracks were added to the app in an earlier update.
In a translated statement released alongside the update, Nintendo shared, "We're always aiming to enrich the Nintendo Switch Online experience with music our fans love.
Adding tracks from Donkey Kong Bananza is part of our ongoing commitment to celebrate classic franchise moments and new releases alike."
Alongside the music update, Nintendo has debuted a new series of Switch Online profile icons inspired by the Donkey Kong Bananza DLC.
The first wave of themed icons is available now, with three more waves scheduled to follow, giving subscribers multiple opportunities to customize their Nintendo Switch profiles with exclusive artwork.
This initiative aligns with Nintendo's continuing effort to reward Switch Online subscribers with fresh, engaging content and personalization features.
This week's flurry of activity follows an earlier update to the Music app, which added much-requested tracks from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
The inclusion of music from such beloved Nintendo franchises demonstrates the company's commitment to both its legacy catalogue and the evolving tastes of Switch Online subscribers.
The Nintendo Music app itself remains available to all active Switch Online members, who can access it via the eShop at no additional cost.
Nintendo Switch Online, which launched globally in September 2018, has continuously expanded its offerings from cloud saves and online multiplayer to a broad range of classic games and exclusive content updates.
Recent releases such as the Donkey Kong: DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC and the new Donkey Kong Bananza tracks emphasize Nintendo's dedication to enhancing the subscription's value and fostering its vibrant gaming community.
