Nintendo has expanded its Nintendo Music app library with the inclusion of the F-Zero (SNES) and the F-Zero X Expansion Kit (Nintendo 64DD) original soundtracks.
Both soundtracks became available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers last week, offering fans an opportunity to revisit some of the most iconic music in the company’s history along with a rare Japan-exclusive offering.
F-Zero, developed and published by Nintendo in 1990 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), set a new standard for racing games with its fast-paced gameplay and memorable tracks.
Its soundtrack quickly became renowned among gamers, featuring standout themes such as “Mute City” and “Big Blue.” These tracks have since been celebrated in subsequent Nintendo franchises, notably recurring in various Super Smash Bros.
titles.
The entire F-Zero (SNES) tracklist now available on the app includes memorable compositions like "Opening," "Sand Ocean," "Port Town," and "Fire Field," along with in-game cues such as "Results" and "You Lost."
In addition to the SNES classic, Nintendo has now made available the F-Zero X Expansion Kit OST.
Originally released exclusively in Japan for the Nintendo 64DD, the Expansion Kit supplemented 1998’s F-Zero X with additional courses, vehicles, and music.
The included soundtrack gives Western audiences the chance to experience musical highlights like "Regeneration," "Rollercoaster," and "Rainbow Road"—tracks previously unavailable outside Japan unless sourced via import or emulation.
A Nintendo representative highlighted the historic significance of these soundtracks, emphasizing that renowned pieces such as "Mute City" and "White Land" continue to resonate with gamers and feature prominently in the company’s wider entertainment portfolio.
Meanwhile, music from the F-Zero X Expansion Kit represents an important facet of Nintendo’s legacy, allowing international fans to appreciate previously inaccessible content from the Nintendo 64DD era.
To access the new soundtracks, listeners must have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
With membership, the Nintendo Music app can be downloaded free of charge from Android and iOS devices via their respective stores.
The addition of F-Zero soundtracks reinforces Nintendo’s commitment to making the company’s musical heritage accessible to both longtime fans and new players, enhancing the value of its online services and mobile ecosystem.
For a complete overview of currently available tracks, subscribers are encouraged to visit the official Nintendo Music app for the most up-to-date catalogue.
