Nintendo continues to expand its Nintendo Switch Online service, delighting retro gaming enthusiasts by adding three new Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) classics to the platform’s digital library.
As of this week, subscribers can rediscover the charm and challenge of Mario & Wario, Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, and Fatal Fury Special, now available exclusively through the SNES application on Nintendo Switch Online.
Mario & Wario, originally launched in 1993 for the Super Famicom in Japan, marks its first official appearance outside its home country.
Developed by HAL Laboratory, the action-puzzle game requires players to use mouse controls to guide Mario, who has been left sightless after Wario drops a bucket on his head.
Gamers must employ the forest fairy’s magical wand—navigating hazards, building platforms, and fending off enemies—to safely escort Mario to Luigi across a robust set of 100 challenging stages.
The game’s control scheme, utilizing the Super Famicom Mouse, is faithfully preserved for this Switch Online release, offering a unique twist for modern players.
Another nostalgic addition is Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind.
Originally developed by Accolade and released in 1993, this platformer stars Bubsy the Bobcat on a quest to retrieve his stolen yarn from the mischievous Woolies.
The game features a total of 16 expansive side-scrolling stages, each brimming with inventive enemies and environmental puzzles.
With expansive levels averaging roughly 300 screens each, Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind became known for its ambitious stage design and energetic sense of humor, both now revived on the Nintendo Switch through the SNES app.
Rounding out the trio, SNK’s Fatal Fury Special brings classic fighting action to the platform.
Released for the SNES in 1995, Fatal Fury Special is an enhanced version of Fatal Fury 2 and includes a roster of 15 fighters.
The game features the original lineup from Fatal Fury 2, enhanced by the addition of three fighters—Billy Kane, Axel Hawk, and Laurence Blood—as well as a new boss character, Wolfgang Krauser.
Veterans like Tung Fu Rue, Duck King, and Geese Howard return from the original Fatal Fury, while the intriguing inclusion of Ryo Sakazaki from Art of Fighting as a special guest fighter—unlocked under specific conditions—adds further depth for fighting game aficionados.
The game is acclaimed for refining the two-line battle system and introducing even more dynamic special moves and finishing attacks.
These latest SNES additions reinforce Nintendo’s ongoing efforts to make classic titles accessible to both new audiences and seasoned gamers.
By bringing Mario & Wario, Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, and Fatal Fury Special to Nintendo Switch Online’s eShop, Nintendo continues to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Super Nintendo era, ensuring that these influential games remain part of the industry conversation.
All three titles are available now for Nintendo Switch Online members via the SNES app.
