Nintendo delivered one of its most ambitious Nintendo Direct presentations to date on September 12, 2025, unveiling an impressive lineup of first-party and third-party titles that will roll out across both Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 through 2026 and beyond.

Featuring a mix of nostalgic favorites and bold new experiences, the showcase catered to longtime fans and newcomers as the company celebrated the 40th anniversary of one of gaming’s most beloved franchises. Super Mario Bros.

40th Anniversary Takes Center Stage The presentation began with a special appearance by legendary Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who introduced several activities set to commemorate 40 years since the groundbreaking launch of Super Mario Bros.

Among the planned festivities, Miyamoto confirmed the release date for the highly anticipated "Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2" bundle, launching October 2, 2025, on Nintendo Switch with enhanced features and 4K resolution support on Nintendo Switch 2 via a free update.

The release will be available as a physical edition and digitally through the Nintendo eShop.

Additionally, two new amiibo figures—Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas—will be released in April 2026, offering in-game bonuses. Miyamoto also unveiled the official title for the next Mario animated feature, revealing "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie." Square Enix confirmed the arrival of "DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined" and "FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE" for Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2026.

Other highlights include Bandai Namco’s "Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection" (March 13, 2026), Supergiant Games’ "Hades II," and a host of indie gems and classics reimagined for modern audiences. Additional announcements covered returning favorites and new experiences alike.

"Mario Tennis Fever" offers the largest character roster in the series’ history, debuting February 12, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2.

Fresh takes across genres were showcased, from "Yoshi and the Mysterious Book" to a remade "FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly" and a new chapter in the "Dynasty Warriors" saga.
