Description

Nintendo has officially updated pricing details for upgrade packs for the Nintendo Switch 2 versions of some of its biggest titles, clarifying costs for owners in both the US and Europe.

As the much-anticipated Switch 2 prepares to launch, retailers and publishers are aligning their offerings to facilitate seamless transitions for players eager to enjoy enhanced versions of familiar games. Retailer Best Buy has now listed the upgrade packs for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree on Nintendo Switch 2 at $19.99 for US customers.

This confirms previous expectations and sets a clear benchmark for Nintendo’s first-party upgrade content in North America.

For European gamers, Nintendo has already revealed via the UK eShop that the upgrade packs for these two major titles are priced at £16.99 or €19.99.

This cost is over double the upgrade fee for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which are set at £7.99 or €9.99. In addition to Nintendo’s own releases, publisher XSEED Games has announced European upgrade pack pricing for Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar.

Each of these upgrade packs will cost a straightforward £10 or €10, reinforcing the trend of premium pricing for Switch 2 enhancements. Notably, Nintendo has taken a differentiated approach to upgrades.

While owners of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom can upgrade to Switch 2 versions for free if they have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, no such offer currently exists for Kirby or Super Mario Party.

Fans wanting to experience the "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" with its exclusive enhancements will need to purchase the upgrade pack or buy the complete game anew. Both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree’’s Switch 2 Editions offer substantial new content to justify the cost.

Kirby receives the "Star Crossed World" expansion, which introduces new challenges and levels, while Jamboree adds "Jamboree TV"—a suite of additional minigames and new modes developed to leverage the technological capabilities of the Switch 2’s camera and microphone features. A spokesperson for Nintendo previously commented that the company is assessing game prices individually, taking care to consider the quality of play, the extent of new content, and the resources required for development.

This approach may explain the notable price difference between the Zelda upgrades and the more content-intensive upgrades for Kirby and Mario Party. The clarification of pricing, both in the US and Europe, helps customers plan their transition to the Nintendo Switch 2 platform.

With more titles expected to follow, Nintendo continues to refine its strategy as fans across the globe prepare for the next generation of Nintendo gaming.
