Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade Pack Announced for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

GungHo Online Entertainment and Nihon Falcom have officially announced that an Upgrade Pack for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will launch for Nintendo Switch 2, enabling players to experience this classic JRPG with enhanced features for just $1.

This upgrade, as detailed in a recent press release, bolsters the game's visuals with higher resolution graphics and supports smoother frame rates, delivering a modern gameplay experience while retaining its beloved turn-based mechanics.

Further details on the Upgrade Pack are expected to be revealed in the coming months. Originally developed by Nihon Falcom, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter debuted on PC before receiving ports for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita, garnering significant acclaim and laying the groundwork for what would become the renowned Trails series.

The upcoming Switch 2 release marks a major step in bringing this acclaimed RPG to a wider audience, supported by GungHo Online Entertainment’s publishing and new localization efforts. The reimagined Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter features enhanced HD visuals and offers localizations in English, German, and French.

Key gameplay improvements include both traditional turn-based combat and the addition of real-time action combat, offering players more flexibility in how they experience the adventure.

Players will be able to enjoy the story with fresh English and Japanese voiceovers, breathing new life into the characters of Estelle Bright and her adoptive brother Joshua as they embark on their quest in the Liberl Kingdom. As the narrative unfolds, Estelle and Joshua are drawn from humble beginnings into a conflict with a mysterious organization threatening their homeland, uncovering conspiracies that test their determination and strengthen their bond.

The game is praised for its intricate world-building and reactive storytelling, where every character interaction adapts to the player's progression. Physical copies will be made available through a special Collector’s Edition produced by Limited Run Games, alongside a standard edition through Amazon in North America ($59.99) and Clear River Games in Europe (€59.99).

Digital versions will be released worldwide via the Nintendo eShop. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 both physically and digitally on September 19, 2025.
