Description

Nintendo has officially announced the second round of its Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program, marking a significant development for members interested in shaping the future of Nintendo's online services.

The program, designed for active Expansion Pack members of Nintendo Switch Online, introduces new testing opportunities—and, notably, compatibility for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.

For those unfamiliar, Nintendo Switch Online is the subscription-based service granting users access to classic games, online multiplayer, and exclusive features via the eShop.

The Playtest Program was initially offered last October as a limited opportunity for subscribers to evaluate and provide feedback on new online features and infrastructure. This time, Nintendo is further expanding the program by allowing selected participants to experience the Playtest not only on the current Nintendo Switch but also on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

This move demonstrates Nintendo's commitment to ensuring a seamless transition and robust online ecosystem as the company evolves its hardware offerings. Eligibility and Registration Details Nintendo has clarified that participation is limited to individuals who meet key requirements: applicants must possess an active Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack membership, be at least 18 years old, and reside in eligible territories.

Registration for this program opens on a first-come, first-served basis starting July 21 at 8:00 AM PT (11:00 AM ET / 4:00 PM UK / 5:00 PM Europe).

A total of 40,000 participants will be selected to join this exclusive testing round.

Interested players can sign up through the official Nintendo website, though selection is not guaranteed due to limited capacity. A spokesperson for Nintendo stated that the initiative is part of an ongoing process to refine and improve the Nintendo Switch Online service.

While the structure of the Playtest appears largely unchanged from last year's initial run, the addition of Switch 2 compatibility is a notable enhancement.

Testing Period and Project Background Selected participants will gain access to the Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program beginning July 28, with the testing period set to conclude on August 10.

This window provides users with ample time to explore the latest service features and contribute crucial feedback to Nintendo’s development teams. The Playtest Program has garnered industry attention since it was first leaked last year.

Subsequent reports revealed that the project has strong ties to veteran Nintendo staff, including former directors from the Splatoon series, who are spearheading this mystery initiative.

While specific details remain under wraps, the involvement of renowned developers underscores the program's significance in shaping Nintendo’s online future. With this renewed Playtest Program, Nintendo emphasizes its dedication to player feedback and online innovation.

The inclusion of Nintendo Switch 2 support signals a forward-thinking approach as the gaming landscape evolves.

For fans and current Expansion Pack subscribers, this is a unique chance to get involved at the cutting edge of Nintendo Switch Online service development.
