Description

Nintendo has officially announced the Splatoon Showdown Series, an exciting competitive tournament for Splatoon players in North America.

Hosted in partnership with esports platform Battlefy and grassroots community Leagues Under the Ink, this event aims to bolster the Splatoon competitive scene with a structured, multi-mode tournament taking place throughout November. The Splatoon Showdown Series will feature four hallmark Splatoon modes: Turf War, Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker.

Each mode includes multiple qualifiers, letting teams compete for a spot in the finals, with the action kicking off on November 5, 2016.

Registration for the tournament is exclusively managed through Battlefy.com, requiring each team to have at least four players, with an option to include up to four substitutes.

Team captains are responsible for registering, checking in, and managing team coordination during the event window. Nintendo’s esports push comes as Splatoon continues to grow in popularity on the Nintendo Switch, drawing a vibrant competitive community and regular updates from the developer.

According to the tournament guidelines, only players who participate in the final match are eligible for prizing, and all communications should take place on the Battlefy platform or the event’s dedicated Discord server.

Tournament support will be provided via Discord, ensuring smooth operation and quick resolution of in-match or organizational issues. A notable tournament rule states that the team with the fastest and most stable connection should host each match—wired connections are strongly preferred.

In the case of a host dispute, the higher-seeded team will host.

Should a team member disconnect, the team must finish the game without that player, a rule designed to maintain fairness and minimize delays.

Match progress is closely monitored, with strict deadlines imposed: if a match fails to start or finish within the prescribed period and no captain has contacted support, both teams risk disqualification. Seeding for each mode's initial tournament will be handled by event organizers.

Future seeding will incorporate previous results, with the top 32 teams seeded and others randomly placed.

Captains are responsible for submitting match results and ensuring they have screenshots as proof in case of disputes. The Splatoon Showdown Series boasts impressive prizes.

First-place winners in each mode will receive an exclusive poster autographed by the Splatoon development team, a Splatoon plush, a Splatoon series Amiibo (3-pack set), a squid pin, and a collectible Splatoon squid figure.

Second- and third-place finishers will also receive a selection of plushes, Amiibo figures, pins, and collectibles.

Only four members per winning team are awarded prizes, further emphasizing team coordination and participation. Each Splatoon mode’s qualifiers and finals are scheduled for consecutive weekends in November and early December.

The tournament structure is as follows: - Turf War: Qualifiers on November 5 and 6, Finals on November 12 - Tower Control: Qualifiers on November 12 and 13, Finals on November 19 - Splat Zones: Qualifiers on November 19 and 20, Finals on November 26 - Rainmaker: Qualifiers on November 26 and 27, Finals on December 3 Check-in for each event opens at 12:00 PM Pacific, with matches starting once seeding is complete.

Interested teams should visit Battlefy.com for detailed rules, further information, and to register for available qualifiers.

The Splatoon Showdown Series demonstrates Nintendo’s continued commitment to building a robust esports ecosystem around its popular Splatoon franchise on the Nintendo Switch.
