Nintendo has announced a targeted relief program to support customers affected by the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, offering free repairs for damaged Nintendo products and a monetary donation to disaster relief efforts.

The earthquake, measured at magnitude 6.8 and occurring in late July 2026, caused fatalities and significant damage in the affected areas.

Nintendo’s response includes both in-kind support for hardware repairs and a cash contribution to aid recovery.

Under the company’s notice, individual customers who reside in areas where the Japanese government applied the Disaster Relief Act in connection with the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake will be eligible for free repair services.

The repair program covers damaged and repairable Nintendo products and will be available from July 28, 2026 through February 1, 2027 for items arriving at Nintendo Service Centers.

Nintendo clarified that service will be provided without charge regardless of whether the product is under warranty.

Nintendo also warned that some devices may be difficult to repair depending on their condition and that repairs will be handled in accordance with the company’s standard repair service regulations.

The notice directs customers to check Nintendo’s page listing products for which repair services are no longer available and advises residents to consult the Cabinet Office website to confirm which locations are covered under the Disaster Relief Act.

In addition to repair support, Nintendo announced a ¥50,000,000 (50 million yen) donation to the Japanese Red Cross to assist humanitarian and recovery operations in affected communities.

This donation complements the company’s free repair initiative and directs funds to organized disaster response.

Paraphrasing Nintendo’s official statement: the company expressed deep sympathies to those affected by the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake and pledged to provide repair services for customers in Disaster Relief Act-designated areas between July 28, 2026 and February 1, 2027, handling repairs free of charge and in line with its service regulations while noting that severely damaged items may not be repairable.

For customers seeking assistance, Nintendo recommends confirming eligibility via the Cabinet Office and contacting a local Nintendo Service Center for details on drop-off and repair processing.

This action follows other instances in which game companies have offered targeted relief after natural disasters, aligning product support with broader community recovery efforts.
