Nintendo Acquires Bandai Namco Studios Singapore: New Nintendo Studios Singapore to Strengthen Switch Game Development

Nintendo has made a significant move to enhance its global game development capabilities by acquiring a majority stake in Bandai Namco Studios Singapore.

The Singapore-based team, established in 2013, will be renamed Nintendo Studios Singapore and integrated as a subsidiary of the Nintendo Group, marking a clear step to strengthen the company's development structure and creative capacity for future Nintendo Switch titles and beyond. Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, located at Infinite Studios in Singapore, has established itself as an expert in creating in-game art assets and has contributed to several major Nintendo titles, most notably the widely acclaimed Splatoon series.

Over the years, the studio has fostered a robust business relationship with Nintendo, providing key development support for titles that have resonated with fans worldwide. In a formal statement, Nintendo explained that the decision to acquire the studio was made to 'bolster the internal development structure of the Nintendo Group.' By integrating Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, Nintendo aims to leverage the team’s specialized talent and proven track record, further enhancing the quality and efficiency of software production on platforms like the Nintendo Switch and future hardware iterations. Under the terms of the agreement, Nintendo will acquire 80% of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore's shares on April 1, 2026, subject to the completion of customary conditions.

The remaining shares will be secured in a later phase, following the stabilization of the company's operations as a Nintendo subsidiary.

The transition will see Bandai Namco Studios Singapore Pte.

Ltd.

officially rebranded as Nintendo Studios Singapore Pte.

Ltd., under the continued leadership of CEO Makoto Ishii. Founded on March 1, 2013, Bandai Namco Studios Singapore has a capital stock of SGD 1,000,000 as of November 2025 and operates primarily in game development and the creation of in-game art assets.

Its contributions have fortified major releases and reinforced Nintendo's commitment to delivering high-quality interactive entertainment across its platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and the eShop digital storefront. Nintendo stated that the acquisition is expected to have only a minimal effect on the company’s financial performance for the current fiscal year.

However, the strategic value of bringing an accomplished development partner in-house underscores Nintendo’s ongoing investment in maintaining its industry leadership and consistently delivering exceptional first-party titles to players. The establishment of Nintendo Studios Singapore not only cements Nintendo’s presence in Southeast Asia but also demonstrates the company's forward-looking approach in building a globally diversified and talented network of development teams.

Gamers can look forward to future releases benefiting from the expanded resources and expertise that this new Nintendo subsidiary brings to the table.
