SEGA is set to expand its hit racing title, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, with a robust lineup of new downloadable content beginning next week.
The family-friendly kart racer, which is available on Nintendo Switch and other major platforms, will welcome iconic Nickelodeon characters to its roster, starting with the much-anticipated SpongeBob SquarePants DLC.
According to an official SEGA press release, the SpongeBob SquarePants content pack will go live on Wednesday, November 19, at 5 PM PT.
This downloadable expansion marks Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ first major crossover with an external media property, signaling SEGA’s ambition to keep the game fresh and engaging for its player base.
With this update, players can now select SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star as playable racers, speed through a Bikini Bottom-themed course, drive the instantly recognizable Patty Wagon vehicle, and enjoy new music tracks inspired by the beloved animated series.
Additionally, each character will feature six unique emotes, adding further personality to the on-track action.
Yet, SpongeBob is just the beginning of CrossWorlds’ content pipeline.
SEGA representatives emphasized that this DLC sets the stage for a series of upcoming additions, with new playable characters and vehicles planned well into 2026.
SEGA stated that the company is "committed to delivering regular and exciting new content" to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, underscoring continued support for the title and its community.
Looking ahead, December 2025 will see the introduction of NiGHTS, a fan-favorite character from SEGA’s classic franchise, alongside the Dream Sleeper vehicle.
Following this, January 2026 brings AiAi from Super Monkey Ball, complete with the Banana Cruiser vehicle.
In February 2026, the game will further expand its universe with two standout characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comic book series: Tangle and Whisper.
These additions are a clear nod to long-time SEGA fans and the wider Sonic community, integrating characters rarely seen in racing titles.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has continued to grow since its release, garnering a dedicated fan base thanks to its engaging gameplay and frequent updates.
With support for both casual and competitive play on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms, the new crossover content is poised to attract new players and keep existing fans racing well into the future.
With SEGA teasing even more characters and collaborations on the horizon, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds remains one of the most dynamic titles in the kart racing genre.
For more information on upcoming content, players are encouraged to follow official SEGA channels and join the conversation across social media.
