Description

Ninty Media, the publisher recognized for its high-quality retrospectives on celebrated Nintendo hardware, is turning its attention to the legacy of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) with a new release—'NESBook'.

This unofficial history book is the next project from the same team behind GameBook, GameBook Color, and GameBook Advance, and is now seeking funding through Kickstarter. Founded by Paul Murphy, Ninty Media has been producing meticulously researched and beautifully illustrated books for over five years.

The company previously released retrospectives on various Game Boy iterations, including the original DMG model in 2023 and the Game Boy Color in 2024, with a Game Boy Advance volume planned for 2025.

Murphy also authored a detailed guide on Nintendo's amiibo figure line in 2021.

Building on this track record, the NESBook aims to present a comprehensive and engaging tribute to Nintendo’s first home console sensation. For NESBook, seasoned gaming journalist Stuart Gipp—known for his work at Retronauts—takes on the role of lead writer, succeeding Paul Murphy, who served as the principal author for the earlier entries in the series.

According to the project’s Kickstarter page, NESBook encapsulates "pure, unadulterated love for the NES, wrapped in an unofficial history publication and delivered by Ninty Media." While the new book features a different lead scribe, the thematic structure remains consistent with Ninty Media’s prior acclaimed works—this time, dedicated to the NES. NESBook is described as an "essential catalogue of the best NES games" and delves into the system’s enduring impact on video game culture.

In addition to a hand-illustrated timeline tracing the NES’s pivotal moments, the book will offer in-depth retrospectives and expanded features authored by some of the industry’s most respected writers.

The contributor list includes VGC’s Chris Scullion (also a regular on Nintendo Life), video game historian and Time Extension contributor Damiano Gerli, and John Rairdin from Nintendo World Report.

Unique, bespoke artwork will accompany the analysis, making NESBook a visually compelling collector’s item for enthusiasts. Ninty Media set an initial funding goal of £20,000 for the production of NESBook, and by the time of this report, the project had already secured over £12,000.

Fans of the NES and collectors interested in owning a detailed and art-rich tribute to Nintendo’s groundbreaking home console can support the Kickstarter campaign to help bring NESBook into reality. With its combination of expert insight, carefully curated features, and striking art, NESBook stands poised to become an essential reference for anyone captivated by the enduring legacy of the Nintendo Entertainment System—a foundational platform that shaped the modern gaming industry.
